First Line Project - Ongoing project. 

The First Line Project commenced in 2009, instigated by the Bookmarks project coordinated by Sarah Bodman at the University of West England, Bristol. The Bookmark project requires contributors to submit 100 editioned bookmarks which are made into sets of bookmarks (the number in each set is determined by the number of artists participating), each artist receives a set, another set is retained by the University archives and the remainder are distributed to Libraries around the world who display them in the library for individuals to take and keep.

I decided that the bookmark for that particular year would be a 'call' for individuals to contribute to my art practice by submitting to me the first line, paragraph or page of their favourite book. Without reading the book I would complete a drawing based on the words that I have received. This has been at times a long and difficult process and to date I have completed approximately 6 drawings that have taken on average 40 hours each to complete. It has also been a wonderful filip to my art practice and other works that I am currently undertaking.
